My teaching style revolves entirely around a sincere passion for the pursuit of knowledge. I truly believe that instilling a sense of enthusiasm and excitement towards learning in students fosters a positive academic environment that helps them to achieve their goals. I approach tutoring sessions with the motto ‘learning is fun’; in my experience, students that enjoy the content they are learning are more likely to engage with the material.

The most rewarding aspect about being a tutor is spreading a genuine love for literature with students. I believe that encouraging students from primary school age to enjoy reading develops important skills for their future studies.

Most importantly, I realise that every student learns differently. I do not believe that a singular method or approach to tutoring is suitable for every student. This is why I am committed to tailoring each session to each student’s specific needs. Whether a student prefers more ‘traditional’ tutoring or whether they enjoy a more dynamic approach, I make sure to accommodate each student’s learning style. Additionally, I always adapt my tutoring sessions creatively to fit around whichever stage of learning a student is at. For instance, for younger students at primary school level I include engaging and appropriate content such as presentation slides that are clear and concise to read.

I have experience teaching English to primary school children at KS1 and KS2 level. This part of their studies is a truly exciting time as this is where they first encounter elementary literary techniques and begin to expand their vocabularies. My main teaching method is writing comprehensions together line-by-line as I believe this helps students explore complex sentence structures that will prepare them for the 11+ exam. In this vein, I also have experience tutoring 11+ candidates, especially the verbal reasoning portion of the examination.

Moreover, I have tutored students that are dealing with difficult backgrounds and I always ensure I approach each session with a sense of understanding and empathy. Although I do not have extensive experience tutoring students with SEN, I am always eager to learn ways to be more inclusive in my approach and want to foster an appreciation of diversity in every session I teach.
