I am a dedicated, patient and empathetic tutor who understands that teaching is more than just explaining key concepts. As a tutor, I aim to encourage students to become more confident, ask more questions and to enjoy biology. Many times, students can get overwhelmed by the stress of exams and revision but I find that learning effectively can only arise from a healthy and positive environment. Thus, I aim to create a safe environment where students are encouraged to take their time, ask questions, make mistakes and learn at their own pace. From my own experiences as both a tutor and a student, I understand how each person learns differently and in their own way. Thus, my approach to teaching is student-centred, meaning that I adapt my style to the student’s needs. Some people can learn through audio cues and some through visual cues. As a tutor, I identify how each and every student learns and I shape the lessons to their needs.

In terms of background, I have high grades at both GCSE and A-Level across multiple subjects. Following my passion in biology, I studied and completed a Master’s degree in neuroscience. Outside of education, I have prior experiences in tutoring at different levels. I have taught small classes as well as one-to-one sessions both privately and within public schools at GCSE level. I have also supervised and co-led classes in SEN schools; thus, I understand how each student and each environment is different and certain situations require a more patient and communicative approach. I take pride in my ability to recognise and work towards the needs of my students and give them more than just the knowledge of the subject but the confidence and enjoyment of learning this subject.

One of my favourite parts of teaching is when students ask questions that go beyond the usual syllabus, it shows a clear interest in the topic and is a key part in tutoring. Hence, I always invite students to ask questions freely about the subject, it invites critical thinking which is a highly valuable skill within and outside of school. As a tutor, I understand that teaching can have a profound impact on a young person’s life. As a result, I want to help students achieve their full potential whilst giving them the confidence and necessary skills that will set them up for success beyond my classes.
