Flora Hewitt-Harris

Hello! My name is Flora and I'm studying the DPhil in Biochemistry at Trinity College, Oxford. I've just finished my Master's by Research at the University of Bristol, and I graduated from the University of Edinburgh in July 2023 with an Honours degree in Biochemistry.

I have almost four years of tutoring experience, teaching Biology and Chemistry at GCSE, National 5, Higher, Advanced Higher, and A-level. I am a friendly, caring, and engaging tutor who seeks to equip students with the study skills needed to succeed independently. My top priority as a tutor is creating an open environment in which my students feel comfortable asking me any questions, no matter how big or how small. To do this, I will always make sure to understand a student's personal goals, and I encourage students to actively participate in our sessions, using lots of practice questions and revision tasks. My favourite aspect of tutoring is watching a student's confidence develop throughout the time we spend together!

I take a creative approach to tutoring, ensuring that my teaching methods are tailored to the needs of the student: for example, using lots of diagrams for students who prefer visual learning, or inventing mnemonic devices for students struggling to remember key concepts. I also have experience working with students who have additional needs such as ADHD and dyslexia.
